Arkansas Independent Living Council

Independent Living

SILC fights to maximize the potential for independent living for Arkansas residents with disabilities or who are becoming more limited as they age. You won’t get grant money from the Council, but you’ll get useful advice on where to turn.

The Independent Living Council (ILC) in Arkansas is an organization dedicated to promoting the independent living philosophy and advocating for the rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. The ILC works towards empowering people with disabilities to live self-determined lives and participate fully in their communities.

Based in Arkansas, the ILC provides a range of services and resources to support individuals with disabilities in achieving independence. These services may include information and referral, peer mentoring, skills training, assistive technology guidance, and advocacy support. The ILC collaborates with various community partners, disability organizations, and government agencies to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to opportunities and resources.

One of the primary objectives of the ILC is to promote independent living principles, which emphasize personal choice, control, and self-direction for people with disabilities. The organization strives to remove barriers and challenge societal perceptions that limit the full participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of life.

Through its programs and initiatives, the Independent Living Council in Arkansas aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, foster self-advocacy, and promote an inclusive society that values the diverse abilities and contributions of all its members.
