South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities

Developmental Disabilities

All around the country, CDDs are run by a board, the majority of which is made up of members who are developmentally disabled or who have an immediate family member with a developmental disability. The South Dakota Council awards disability grants to help similarly affected individuals and their loved ones become fully participatory members of their communities.

The Council on Developmental Disabilities in South Dakota is a state agency dedicated to promoting the inclusion, independence, and well-being of individuals with developmental disabilities. The council works towards ensuring that people with disabilities have access to the necessary supports and services to lead fulfilling lives.

The council serves as an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities, working closely with policymakers, service providers, and community organizations to address their unique needs. They strive to enhance opportunities for education, employment, healthcare, housing, and community integration.

Through collaboration with various stakeholders, the council develops and implements initiatives, programs, and policies that support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. These efforts encompass areas such as self-advocacy, early intervention, transition from school to adulthood, and quality assurance in service delivery.

The council provides resources, information, and training to individuals, families, and professionals in the disability community. They offer guidance on navigating available services, accessing funding options, and understanding relevant laws and regulations.

By fostering partnerships and engaging in public awareness campaigns, the Council on Developmental Disabilities in South Dakota strives to create a more inclusive society that values and supports the rights and abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities.
