Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) in Hawaii are organizations that serve as a vital resource for older adults and their families. These agencies are responsible for planning, coordinating, and advocating for services and programs that support the well-being and independence of older individuals within their designated geographic areas.
In Hawaii, there are four AAAs that cover different regions of the state: the Executive Office on Aging (EOA), which serves the entire state; the Maui County Office on Aging (MCOA); the Elderly Affairs Division (EAD) covering Oahu; and the Hawaii County Office of Aging (HCOA).
These AAAs work closely with local service providers, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure that a comprehensive range of services is available to older adults. These services may include nutrition assistance, transportation, caregiver support, health promotion, long-term care ombudsman services, and information and referral assistance.
AAAs play a crucial role in assessing the needs of the aging population, developing plans to address those needs, and advocating for policies and funding that enhance the quality of life for older adults. They serve as a central point of contact for individuals seeking assistance, providing guidance and connecting them with appropriate resources based on their unique circumstances.
Through their efforts, these AAAs aim to promote aging in place, empower older individuals to make informed decisions about their care, and ensure that the aging population in Hawaii receives the support and services they need to lead fulfilling lives.
