Independent Living

As a disabled resident of South Dakota, the state’s SILC protects and furthers your ability to lead an independent life. SILCs don’t offer grant money, but they do offer direction when you’re seeking services, funds or other assistance.

The Independent Living Council (ILC) in South Dakota is a state-level organization dedicated to promoting and supporting independent living for individuals with disabilities. The ILC serves as a resource and advocacy center, working towards the empowerment and inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life.

The ILC provides a range of services and programs to assist individuals in achieving their goals of independent living. These services may include information and referral, peer mentoring, skills training, and assistance with accessing community resources. The council also advocates for policy changes and legislation that enhance the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities.

By fostering partnerships with other disability organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders, the ILC facilitates collaboration and coordination to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. They strive to eliminate barriers and discrimination, ensuring equal access to education, employment, housing, transportation, and healthcare.

Located in South Dakota, the Independent Living Council plays a vital role in advancing the independence and social integration of individuals with disabilities across the state. Through their efforts, they aim to create a more inclusive society where everyone can fully participate and thrive.
